Chimehours - Underneath The Earth (2025) [Hi-Res]

The UK-based duo Chimehours, consisting of Beck Goldsmith and Jon Dix, presents their debut project, exploring hauntological soundscapes and focusing on the inner connection with the natural world. Having previously collaborated on indie folk releases, Goldsmith and Dix teamed up to express their shared love for folk horror, ghost stories, and the supernatural, exploring themes like nature, folklore, and a sense of the uncanny. The album's concept solidified after a reading of Max Porter's novel Lanny, inspiring the duo to create something akin to a soundtrack. Drawing inspiration from ethereal minimalism, retro cinema, and folk narratives, Chimehours craft a sonic palette reflecting on the pressures of modern life and the desire for reconnection with the natural world. Their premiered single, Underneath the Earth, touches on the complicated relationship with nature and a sense of "otherness." Created during and beyond the lockdown, the album incorporates drones, drums, gritty guitars, woodwind, strings, and voice textures that resist clear linearity.
