Harpsichordist Helene Diot takes us on a journey between Amsterdam and London, where Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (1562-1621), William Byrd (c. 1540-1623) and Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625) enter into a dialog with toccatas, fantasies and variations. Sweelinck, mentor to a generation of organists, is a key figure in the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque. He reveals a refined and visionary art, a synthesis of English and Italian styles that even inspired Bach himself.
