Jamie Lidell & Luke Schneider - A Companion For the Spaces Between Dreams (2025) [Hi-Res]

Musicians Jamie Lidell and Luke Schneider have collaborated on a new experimental album, A Companion For The Spaces Between Dreams, due out this fall on Northern Spy Records. The LP is conceived as a sonic companion for psychedelic journeys, inspired by Lidell's own experiences with ketamine therapy, which deepened his belief in art's therapeutic potential. Lidell describes the music as a support and guide for the listener, with or without sensory heightening, in settings where "a mind is often found more exposed."

Lidell, known for his work in Super_Collider and genre-bending solo albums on Warp Records (ranging from abstract techno to neo-soul), and Schneider, a pedal steel guitarist who has worked with Margo Price and Orville Peck and released solo cosmic LPs, combined their talents. Their partnership emerged unexpectedly during work on a Moog promotional video. The album features five long-form pieces, with Lidell using modular synths, Fender Rhodes, tape effects, and percussion to complement Schneider's improvised pedal steel swells. Lidell refined the material with sonic micro-detail during a period of heightened neuroplasticity, resulting in a tactile and transportive outcome. The album, featuring drone-like textures and whispers of krautrock, aims to induce a vulnerable inner voyage while evading sterility.
