Makaya McCraven - Techno Logic (2025) [Hi-Res]

Drummer Makaya McCraven, known as the "beat scientist," has released the ambitious project Off the Record, which compiles four avant-garde EPs: Techno Logic, The People's Mixtape, Hidden Out!, and PopUp Shop. Shaped by his jazz heritage and the Chicago music scene, McCraven's career, spanning eleven albums, is marked by a redefinition of modern jazz. Off the Record continues this tradition, blending traditional jazz with electronic textures, hip-hop rhythms, sampling, and live improvisation. In particular, the final EP, which features a combination of electronic elements, jazz harmonies, and a tuba, is arguably the most groundbreaking. One of the EPs, Techno Logic, is a compilation of live recordings from various cities and demonstrates McCraven's mastery of an eclectic mix of styles, including the standout boom bap track "Boom Bapped," featuring Ben LaMar Gay and Theon Cross.
