The album 'Bag of Max Bag of Cass' is a collaboration between longtime Death Grips associate Lucas Abela (Justice Yeldham), known for his noise performance with broken glass, and drummer Zach Hill. This project, likely the noisiest Warp release since 'Satanstornade', combines Hill's whirring rhythms on v-drums with Abela's manic modular sounds. Their collaboration originated over a decade ago in Sydney when Abela, who had previously worked with Death Grips, proposed an impromptu improv to Hill, then playing with Boredoms. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Abela refined his technique of using glass with contact mics, transitioning from pedals to a modular setup so the glass could simultaneously create and modulate the sound, and became interested in combining this with Hill's drums. The material was recorded in late 2023, after which Hill spent a year "reprocessing and producing" it. The album showcases the duo's intense interplay; for instance, the single 'Combat Boxes' features the drums battling Abela's noise, while 'Nephillm P' is extreme computer music that transforms Hill's rhythms into a digital hailstorm. Other tracks like 'Figment 4' and 'Scaredy Cats' also explore unique, uncompromising sonic territories.
