TABOU1 has released X Uhuru on vinyl, the sole collaborative album between Michael Rose and Sly & Robbie following their successful period with Black Uhuru from 1978 to 1984. Instead of recreating the classic Black Uhuru sound, X Uhuru features an innovative blend of traditional Reggae with contemporary Dancehall and World Music elements, including African influences from musicians like Ray Lema and Manu Dibango. Michael Rose, a Grammy winner and Reggae legend (known for the groundbreaking trio Black Uhuru), showcases his signature vocals, profound lyrics on freedom, resilience, and unity, and trademark North African ululations in this 1999 effort. The rhythmic foundation, crafted as part of the TAXI sound, skillfully combines the power of computer ragga with deep roots Reggae grooves. The album is highly recommended and considered among Rose's best work.
