The conception, recording, and production of this album has always been a dream for myself and my friends, and its release has been long anticipated. While the project was initially driven by pure ambition to record and put our own music out into the world, the process of it all has forced me to reflect on the experiences that inspired the music it contains. I initially met Jimmy, Sam, and Noah at different points and places within our own musical development as students, and although we had some previous shared experiences, it was not until meeting together at the University of Illinois that we all truly connected. It is certainly a pleasure to perform and collaborate with great musicians, but running into those who share an aligned musical vision and who you connect deeply with on a personal level is a rare and special occurrence. Although I composed the tune Off Campus as a junior in college, it seemed fitting for that to be the title of the project, as the dream finally came to fruition following our graduation. Each one of the compositions on this album were inspired and influenced by our experiences together - the post-recital hangs, our gigs at venues like the Rose Bowl and the Illini Union (both well and poorly attended), rehearsals that were thrilling and sometimes frustrating, and working with those who inspired and mentored us along the way. Now that the project is finally complete, I am beginning to realize our past experiences that the music mirrors and the anticipation and excitement for where it may take us in the future. I am especially humbled to share this excitement with my bandmates and with all of you.
