Moriah Plaza - Própolis (2025) [Hi-Res]

The Berlin-based group Moriah Plaza, comprising musicians from Tel Aviv, Chile, and the UK, has released a new EP titled ‘Propolis’. The EP effortlessly blends Brazilian samba, cinematic Latin jazz, and psychedelic 60s pop with a cool aesthetic, continuing the work established on their critically acclaimed and widely playlisted self-titled debut album from 2023. ‘Propolis’ showcases a more collaborative effort. The title track, co-written with Brazilian poet Cecília Erisman, carries a joyful Brazilian tone reminiscent of Os Mutantes. “Dizendo” captures the relaxed vibe of a Latin American cafe with laid-back jazz organ and vocals, while “Besos en La Playa” shifts into a more pronounced Latin jazz mode with Spanish lyrics. The EP closes with the slow-building “Dom Dom,” which blossoms into an epic vocal crescendo and draws reflections of Stereolab and Zero 7. With ‘Propolis’, Moriah Plaza expands their influences and redefines their genre-defying sound, potentially appealing to listeners who enjoy groups like Calexico and Khruangbin.
