I had planned to do a Bandcamp only compilation of songs that reflect my style. This was going to be primarily as a way for people new to my music to get a feel for who I am. The title, I think, fits my songwriting style- I'd love to just write songs about love, but the world doesn't allow me to do that.
However, I found myself with a bunch of new songs that fitted the album title. So, now we have a hybrid, new and re-imagined songs plus some more that definitely fit the love and defiance title, love of people, places, a cry for us to love ourselves- plus, of course, songs that send a defiant message to those who rule us, and have done so throughout history. I am absolutely thrilled with the new songs, and I feel these songs sit very well together.
All the songs, with one exception, have the expert production hand and musicianship of Martin Stephenson. I am as in awe of working with him as I was when we started our journey together.
The album finishes with a cover, a rarity for me, and one that reflects my ongoing respect for the songs of Steve Earle, and was a lovely little project with some good musical friends.
I realise that you may already have some of these songs, so I have tried to keep the price low. I can't afford to produce CDs for this album sadly, so its download only.
I hope you like the album, and maybe, if you don't feel you can justify buying this one, you may know someone who might appreciate a window into my songwriting soul!
