Far Out Recordings is releasing the first official vinyl reissue of the 1981 album Noite Que Brincou De Lua by the duo Edu Passeto & Gui Tavares, a rare masterpiece of Brazilian Popular Music (MPB). As disciples of the Clube Da Esquina movement, Edu and Gui created an album combining psychedelic folk, jazz, bossa, and rock, featuring lush vocal harmonies. The duo's musical partnership, which originated at festivals, was motivated by a desire for social and political change during the final years of the Brazilian military dictatorship. Due to federal censorship, they cautiously had to refine their lyrics, which contained social criticism (such as the song 'Profome'), to secure the album's release. The creation of the record took almost a year, as the musicians struggled to pay for studio time. Despite some radio play, the album remained relatively obscure. The musical collaboration ended in 1986. Edu Passeto passed away in 2008. His former partner, Gui Tavares, currently lives in London, where he continues to make music and direct Brazilian music projects and choirs.
