The musical collective Tribeqa, based in Nantes, is known for its unique style, which is a vibrant blend of afro-soul, jazz, and hip-hop. The four-member group masterfully combines traditional and contemporary instruments, such as Josselin Quentin's chromatic balafon, Etienne Arnoux's acoustic guitar, drums, vocals, and Malou Oheix's synth bass. Their live shows are an energetic musical journey, combining African music, soul, and hip-hop with lyrics in multiple languages. Tribeqa recently released their fourth album, SUMU (which means "coming together" in Dioula), described by critics as a "majestic opus." SUMU confirms the collective's distinct identity, creating a dialogue between African roots, upbeat jazz, and powerful hip-hop. The album is characterized by rich textures, lyricism, and a deep groove, with songs dedicated to themes of celebration, family, creativity, and inspiring locations in West Africa. SUMU features prestigious guest artists, including jazz flautist Magic Malik, rappers Mr. J. Mereiros and Blacc El, and a family of Griots from Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast, who ground the album in traditional African roots. The SUMU album is positioned as a manifesto bridging two continents.
