Himmelskip - Den siste kvegdriver (2025) [Hi-Res]

The Norwegian band Himmelskip, consisting of four young yet experienced musicians (aged 20–26), released their groundbreaking debut album Den siste kvegdriver ("the last cowboy"). Their music, which can be described as "cow-jazz" or an instrumental Western-style soundtrack, is a unique blend of americana, jazz, Nordic folk music, rock, and dub. The band creates cinematic compositions that evoke images of prairies and railroads. The members, including guitarist Simen Jakobsen Harstad (formerly of Golden Core) and pedal steel player Elias Wallumrød Orning (formerly of Embla and the Karidotters), self-produced the album, recording it in a vintage analogue style at Oslo's Amper Tone studio, with contributions from famed Norwegian musicians David Wallumrød and Erlend Viken. Despite their short history, Himmelskip are actively performing, including playing the Oslo Jazz Festival and undertaking a headline tour of Norway in 2024, where improvisation is a key element of their dynamic live shows.
