Shoko Nagai - Forbidden Flowers (2025)

On Forbidden Flowers, Shoko Nagai crafts a compelling semi-autobiographical journey, each composition unfolding like a chapter in her personal book. Drawing on her life in NYC as a female experimental musician, she fuses jazz, contemporary classical, world, and electronic music—genres she’s lived and breathed. Unbound by stylistic expectations, Nagai follows only her raw, honest responses to her experiences and artistic challenges, finding beauty in the unconventional. This work was made possible by the NYFA Women’s Fund NYC grant.
