Vocalist Paul Marinaro has released a double album featuring 25 tunes from the classic Duke Ellington songbook. The album showcases Ellington's versatility, presenting arrangements ranging from small groups to a jazz orchestra, both with and without strings, utilizing charts by noted arrangers like John Clayton, Alan Broadbent, and Chuck Israels. Marinaro demonstrates a broad range of vocal styles, shifting easily from upbeat swingers such as “I’m Beginning To See The Light” and “I’m Just A Lucky So and So,” to softer, more intimate performances, like “(In My Solitude)” with guitarist Mike Allemana. Tom Vaitsas's piano work and string arrangements contribute to the mood in tracks like “Azure” and “Don’t You Know I Care.” Marinaro's performances show respect for Ellington's legacy while infusing the material with his own unique and compelling style, evident in his urgent take on “Caravan” and his passionate approach to “Day Dream.”
