Steph Richards, Qasim naqvi - Miss America (2025) [Hi-Res]

Talk Show is a new duo featuring Steph Richards (trumpets, resonating surfaces) and Qasim Naqvi (drums, synthesizer), whose debut album Miss America is set for release on We Jazz Records on November 21st, marking their first pure duo collaboration after nearly two decades of working together on other projects. The album was recorded live, with Naqvi crafting real-time electronics and drums while Richards summoned otherworldly acoustic sounds using trumpet and resonating percussion (including water), all while retaining their virtually untouched "live" nature. The duo's musical language is rooted in visual performance art and theatricality, focusing on experimentalism and the grotesque, inspired by their meeting at CalArts in 2008. Qasim Naqvi is an established percussionist and composer, drummer for the trio Dawn of Midi, with extensive background in jazz, improvised, and chamber music. Steph Richards is a "boldly inventive" trumpeter and composer who bridges jazz, creative music, and multimedia performance, collaborating with influential figures like Anthony Braxton and Laurie Anderson, and whose solo albums have earned critical acclaim.
