Stefano Dall'Ora - Backlash of Uncertainty (2025)

Backlash of Uncertainty is the fourth release by the Lorenzo De Finti Quartet, issued in 2025. On this album, the Milanese pianist and composer De Finti affirms his artistic maturity, developing a musical language that echoes the legacy of the Esbjörn Svensson Trio and traces of Jarrett, yet retains his own unique personal voice. The quartet, which deviates from the classic piano trio format due to the inclusion of trumpeter Alberto Mandarini, also features co-leader and co-author Stefano Dall’Ora (bass/electronics) and Marco Castiglioni (drums). The ensemble’s collective sound, where melody reigns supreme, balances chamber-like delicacy with sudden bursts of energy. The album’s title reflects its thematic core: the uncertainty of the present era is transformed into fertile ground for creative inspiration. The compositions unfold as a continuous suite, where simple, cantabile themes intertwine with turbulent improvisation, and silence dialogues with dynamic surges, creating a deeply felt and rewarding listening experience.
