The High Span is a quartet based in Rochester, Kent, offering a unique fusion of DIY post-pop jangle, lyric-driven guitar indie, and edgier experimental sounds, all infused with a distinctive English sensibility. The band was formed around songwriter Kevin Younger, who has prior experience with Subway Sect and The Speed of Sound, and includes Medway scene veterans Mark Aitken and Canadian alt-rocker James Moore. The collective garnered press and public attention following the release of their Quirky Miniboss Squad EP in 2020 and their self-titled debut album in 2023, both recognized by Record Collector. The new album continues the band's focus on experimental soundscapes. The lyrical themes are diverse, ranging from personal trauma (lost love, dreams) to historical narratives (19th-century Parisian anarchism). The group also covered The Velvet Monkeys' psychedelic-punk track Everything Is Right.
