Ghanaian artist Wiyaala, known as the 'Lioness of Africa,' is set to release the album Segerege on December 5, 2025, in collaboration with the Afro-pop group The Yaga Yagas. This cross-cultural project fuses traditional West African storytelling and rhythms, drawn from the Sissala, Waale, and Dagaare peoples, with contemporary European soundscapes. Recorded in Slovenia and Wiyaala's hometown of Funsi, Northern Ghana, the album is described as a sonic journey through memory, identity, and cultural resilience, urging young Africans to embrace their roots with pride. The lead single, 'Scorpion,' sung in Dagaare, metaphorically advocates for a courageous return to one's origins. Segerege is positioned as a cultural bridge and a tribute to oral traditions, demonstrating music's power to connect across continents.
