Loosegoats - A Mexican Car in a Southern Field (1997)

The Startracks label released a compilation of early EPs by the Swedish band Loosegoats, arranged in reverse chronological order. The collection begins with material from the Slotmachines and Busted Dreams EP, which, with the exception of the title track, constitutes the least compelling portion of the release. This is followed by brilliant work from the breakthrough Country Crock and Mule Habits EPs. The record concludes with early recordings from the debut EP, Small Lesbian Baseball Players. Despite its compilation format, the album possesses a cohesive and high-quality sound, avoiding the impression of a disjointed collection of B-sides.
