The history of music knows many vocal and symphonic works that are based on the Gospel of
The New Testament, probably the most famous of which are the "Passions" by J. S. Bach. Much
less is known about the Gnostic Gospels, which were excluded from the New Testament. The Coptic texts
on papyrus date back to the 5th century, although one of the most respected experts in the field is Professor
Karen L. King suggests that the text of the Gospel of Mary was originally written in Greek
already at the time of Jesus Christ.
Works based on the texts of the Gospel are mostly called passions, however, in
this case it would be wrong, since the text of the Gospel of Mary differs significantly from
The Gospels of John and the Synoptics. The Gospel of Mary does not tell the story of Jesus' Passion,
instead it shows the philosophical reflections of Jesus.
