In mid-1963, at the height of the folk music revival, country artist Grandpa Jones recorded the album Grandpa Jones Sings Real Folk Songs. As a staunch conservative, he aimed to provide an authentic counter-response to the commercialized folk music performed by left-leaning artists. Despite impeccable instrumentation and high-quality vocals on specific tracks, the record lacked conceptual consistency and the artist's characteristic energy. The album was a commercial failure: the collegiate audience rejected the sentimental depiction of plantation life, while traditional country fans ignored the release. Nevertheless, the work significantly expanded Jones's discography and served as an honest reflection of his worldview.
