The band was formed in February 1947, New York, NY, United States.
Members have been Paul "Payo" Alicea (founder, guitar, bass, percussionist), Marie Alicea (vocals), Paul Alicea (timbales), Frank Sanchez (guitar), Ray Mantilla (percussion)
They are also known as Sexteto La Playa, The La Playa Sextet, The La Playa Orchestra.

Al Castellanos:
Latin bandleader most active from the mid-to-late 1950s. His publishing company was Aljean Music.

Emilio de los Reyes:
Cuban born trumpeter, singer, composer, orchestra leader (1920 - 1987) -- also appears as Emilio de los Reyes, he formed his own orchestra in 1943, moved to New York in 1947 where he formed a rhumba band -- brother of trumpeter Walfredo De Los Reyes II and trombonist Rafael de los Reyes, and father of drummer Rafael de los Reyes.
