"a nothing / a void" represents an intentional refusal of momentum. Recorded over the course of a year in Brooklyn, Portland, Callicoon, and Saugerties, the album pushes back against the quiet pressures of optimization, productivity, and efficiency.
Instead, the music loosens its grip, allowing fragments, detours, and half-formed ideas to sit as they are. Field recordings, processed guitars, drifting synths, and worn tape gestures assemble into music that meanders with no expectation of arrival. “No point is the point” is both philosophy and practice: structure gives way to texture, abrasiveness coexists with calm, and meaning comes through presence, not clarity.
Composed and performed by Asher Fusco, the record blends treated electric and acoustic guitars, Fender Rhodes, synthesized clavichords and strings, tape-loop manipulation, drum programming, and environmental sound. These elements were captured in intimate, varied spaces — home studios, porches, riversides — that imbue the album with a tactile, weathered feel. Contributions from Ross Martin’s real-time Rhodes processing and Leia Slosberg’s live flute (most notably on "Poem (1956)") introduce moments of acoustic warmth amid the studio interventions.
Mixed by Ian Goddard and co-produced by Joan Arnau Pàmies, "a nothing / a void" invites the listener to linger inside fragments, to follow sonic side paths without urgency, and to find stillness where intention has been gently set aside.
