Tangerine Dream - The Angel of the West Window (2013)

"The Angel of the West Window" is a conceptual studio album by the German electronic music pioneers Tangerine Dream. This work is part of the ambitious "Sonic Poems" series, in which the collective translates classic literary works into the language of music. The album is entirely inspired by the eponymous occult novel by Austrian writer Gustav Meyrink, which tells the story of the alchemist John Dee.

The musical canvas of the album, created under the direction of Edgar Froese, immerses the listener in an atmosphere of alchemy, mysticism, and the quest for eternal truths. The sound is characterized by multi-layered sequences, melodic synthesizer passages, and deep ambient pads. The 2013 edition by the Purple Pyramid label made this release accessible to the North American market while preserving the original aesthetics of the group's soundscapes.
