When Dvořák premiered his monumental cantata The Spectre’s Bride in 1885, it was a roaring success. Now, there is an opportunity to relive the thunderous spectacle first-hand, in an unprecedented rendition by the finest Czech musicians – among them the Prague Philharmonia, the Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno and conductor Petr Altrichter on SVATEBNÍ KOŠILE from Navona Records.

Scarcely any composer managed to infuse swooping lyricism with both grandeur and excitement as profoundly as Dvořák. All the hallmarks are present here: Slavic melancholy, Bohemian verve, impeccable polyphony, and a towering, luscious orchestration. The all-Czech ensemble doesn’t merely perform, but lives and breathes this masterpiece by its great compatriot. A magnificent achievement all around.
