With a world-wise delivery and voice, Maria Corsaro delivers an album that is wide ranging in colors, from bright primaries to nuanced blends. Her team of Skip Ward/b, David Sillman/dr and Mark Feinberg/ts-fl is up to the task, as Feinberg’s tenor growls like a lion when Corsaro gets feisty on R&Bish pieces like “If You Never Fall In Love With ME” and an assertive punch of “No More Blues”. She plays the saloon gal well, as the late night “In April” while delicate on the intimate “That Day”. Corsaro shows she can weave out a story, spinning a yarn around Ward on a haunting “Portrait In Black” while gliding with gentility with his and Feinberg’s flute on a flowery read of McCoy Tyner’s “You Taught My Heart To Sing”. Able to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee.~ By George W. Harris
