In a world obsessed with productivity and progress, it’s easy to forget the only moment in which we truly exist : the present. Sunglint, the reflection of sunlight on water, embodies the realization of disconnecting from our anxiety and expectations to reconnect with what truly matters.

It all begins in a teenager’s bedroom—Ravi Ramsahye’s—where energetic pop-punk meets the soundscapes of video games and anime. This youthful passion fueled his musical aesthetic with a disarming emotional honesty. Gradually, it became a laboratory of experimentation where these influences conversed with jazz.

Ravi Ramsahye’s fascination with odd time signatures draws him toward math rock, which shapes the unconventional narratives he tells. By weaving soundscapes through interlaced arpeggios, the influence of midwest emo resonates with a Japanese cultural heritage—Nintendo worlds and manga that shaped his youth. These subgenres push the boundaries of the guitar and open the way to a singular approach built on alternate tunings, asymmetric polyphony, and tapping techniques. Each piece, and the album as whole, unfolds as a cinematic odyssey.

Written in Mauritius after a long absence away from his roots, Sunglint is also a return to Ravi’s origins. Through them, the guitarist pays homage to a culture of community and sharing, transposing it into a desire to make jazz accessible—even to those unfamiliar with its codes.

Disorder fascinates, and order obsesses. In this tumultuous chaos, we hold on to what is here, before us—to what truly exists, to what moves us at our core. A dreamy gaze over the mountains. Orange clouds at dusk. The sensation of an opening horizon, like a promise of freedom. The warm scent of spices that recall home. Freed from judgment, the mind finds peace. The realization that some things are beyond our control leads to letting go. And like a fleeting glimmer cutting through the shadows, Sunglint brings us back from the void to the present—reminding us of what truly matters.
