Chaos String Quartet - CHAOS (2026) [Hi-Res]

Chaos has always been seen as a threat, but also as the foundation of life. Numerous creation myths tell us that the world emerged from disorder, from a hullabaloo. In the same way, anarchic spirits in particular are considered capable of creating masterpieces of art.

The present album is dedicated to works that carry a sounding chaos within them. Originally written for very different instrumentations, these pieces are heard in arrangements for string quartet and are linked by improvised interludes - interludes for which the Hungarian composer Samu Gryllus created the basis. The Chaos String Quartet was born out of a legendary viola joke: Established, world-famous string quartet seeks new first violin, second violin ... and cellists. That's exactly what happened. On the rugged Cornish coast, during a master class, violist Sara Marzadori asked violinist Susanne Schäffer if she would like to form a quartet with her. After this initial conversation, it took a while to find two other brave musicians in their late twenties who were ready to embark on the exciting, sometimes complex and risky adventure of the string quartet. Fortunately, Eszter Kruchió and Bas Jongen joined soon after with great enthusiasm.

The ensemble is happy to pass on its passion - and a bit of chaos - to the next generation: for example as Young Artists in Residence at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where they teach and work with the musicians of tomorrow. They have also been named BBC New Generation Artists (2023-2025) and regularly perform in prestigious halls across Europe.
