Circle X - Prehistory (2026)

Drag City has released the first official reissue of Circle X’s 1983 debut album, "Prehistory," which was originally recorded in 1981. The Louisville-based ensemble developed a visionary sound that preceded post-rock and noise, blending post-punk with dub-influenced polyrhythms and atonal experimentation. The record features intricate drum phasing techniques reminiscent of Steve Reich, alongside tape loops and structural deconstruction. Although the band’s work influenced the underground scene and previously circulated via bootlegs, this release marks the definitive return of a rare post-punk artifact to the public. The album remains a significant example of avant-garde music that challenged conventional song structures through deliberate sonic dissolution.
