"The Sweet Sweden Suite" is the sophomore album by Johannes Gammelgaard Kvartett, following up their acclaimed debut album from 2021.

The album reflects Johannes's encounter with Sweden and Swedish culture, after he moved there from his home country Denmark in 2017. Through the 11 tracks of the album, the listener gets an insight into the composer's observations and inspirations over a period of 5 years - like a scrapbook, where impressions from different times and places have been collected into a coherent musical suite. Themes such as childhood memories, belonging and homesickness are addressed, and the result is both cheerful, wistful and very nostalgic.

The 8 composed pieces are interspersed with 3 field recordings (tracks 1, 6 and 9) which anchor the album geographically to 3 places that were important to Johannes during his first years Sweden - and still are. On 3 tracks, the quartet is extended to an octet, which gives the album a grand character and great dynamic variation. Sources of inspiration include Jan Johansson, Nacka Forum, Jesper Zeuthen, Carl Nielsen, John Coltrane, Danish writer Inger Christensen as well as nordic folk music.
