The result of decades of passionate immersion in Bach’s works, this recording represents an important, though certainly not final, stage in a long journey. In the absence of any comparable undertaking, the long period of time preceding the first recordings of Bach’s violin works in their entirety on clarinet becomes understandable.

The starting point of my journey was classical clarinet studies and a career as a clarinetist, during which my understanding of J. S. Bach's music gradually matured and coalesced into a coherent vision through extensive experience interpreting his works, even on keyboard instruments and as a conductor. When it comes to performing Bach and Baroque music in general, I am now convinced that the clarinet is on a par with the violin, the fellow ruler of instruments.
