In December 1973, Hilly Kristal rebranded his establishment as CBGB, pivoting toward rock music and inadvertently establishing a cornerstone of modern alternative culture. Between 1974 and 1975, the "Big Five"—Television, Ramones, Blondie, Patti Smith, and Talking Heads—made their debuts at the venue before ascending to international stardom. Following their departure, the club became a focal point for diverse movements such as No Wave, post-punk, hardcore punk, and power pop. This four-CD compilation archives the contributions of both legendary acts and overlooked innovators who defined the club's creative output. Although the physical location has closed, the experimental spirit fostered within CBGB continues to exert a profound influence on the global musical landscape.
