"TEMESGEN," the debut EP from the London-based duo ZENA, is an ambitious reimagining of Ethiopian musical heritage. Comprised of Yohan Kebede (of Kokoroko fame) and seasoned bassist Menelik, the project creates a unique synthesis of traditional Ethio-jazz with London's electronic scene, alternative R&B, and psychedelic funk. Inspired by the foundational works of Mulatu Astatke, the duo's music explores spiritual roots and contemporary urban rhythms, offering an improvisational, trance-like sound that bridges the past and future of the African diaspora.
