Ian Dogole - The Last Trane to Africa (2026)

Playing African percussion instruments ranging from ankle bells to djembes, Ian Gogole takes the music and mind of John Coltrane to the original continent with Richard Howell/ts-ss-voc, Frank Martin/p, Sheldon Brown/ts-ss-bcl, Fred Randolph-Gary Brwon/b, David Frazier/perc and Avoteja/pet on tribute to the jazz giant.

Coltrane fans will know most of these tunes by heart, but the charts have a more African heat, with Avoteja adding a salute in poetry on the earthy “Tunji”. The take here of “ Africa” is filled with Serengeti style stampedes of percussion with Howell/ts and Brown/ss searing through the like a Rift.
