When I Went West is Dibson T. Hoffweiler's debut solo guitar album, released in May 2015 on Scissor Tail Editions in a limited edition of 300 copies. All eight pieces were recorded on six-string guitar at Wally Sound studio in Oakland, California, between September 2013 and July 2014. Having spent eight years as a fixture of the New York City anti-folk scene, Hoffweiler relocated to the Bay Area and turned his focus entirely to solo acoustic guitar — a shift that proved transformative. Without words, he found himself more willing to explore grief, contentment, joy, love, and curiosity; the compositions are deeply rooted in the experience of relocation, of forging and losing friendships, and of encountering the natural beauty of a new home. The music carries a spirit of joyous experimentation alongside genuine emotional sincerity, situating Hoffweiler within the Bay Area's long tradition of fingerstyle composers — a lineage stretching from Robbie Basho and John Fahey in the 1960s through to contemporaries such as Chuck Johnson and Andrew Weathers.Title: When I Went West
