Ephemera is the debut album by Canadian singer-songwriter, pianist, and flautist Carla Lother, released on Chesky Records in May 1999. Lother's introduction to label founder David Chesky led to a collaboration with producer Joel Goodman and a recording session at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in New York City, captured in high resolution at 96kHz/24-bit.
The album weaves together tender ballads, acoustic folk songs, orchestral arrangements, and Celtic-influenced melodies into a cohesive whole, supported by strings, flute, light percussion, and synthesizer. Three tracks set poetry by W. B. Yeats — the title song, "The Song of Wandering Aengus," and "Sweet Dancer" — while "Geordie" draws on traditional folk sources. The Celtic-tinged "Jaelish" invites comparison to Enya and Loreena McKennitt, and the closing "Roll Away" brings together all the album's stylistic threads in a sweeping emotional culmination. Ephemera was later reissued as Chesky Records' first folk SACD release, a testament to both the recording's audiophile quality and the enduring appeal of Lother's distinctive voice.
