El Sonido Moderno (The Modern Sound of Bobby Paunetto) is the debut album by American jazz vibraphonist and composer Bobby Paunetto, first released in 1967 on Mardi Gras Records.

The album is considered a classic of 1960s Latin jazz and New York salsa, combining elements of mambo, jazz, and R&B.

Paunetto, who later taught at the Berklee College of Music, brought complex harmonies and textural depth to Latin music. The album is distinguished by its use of the vibraphone as a lead instrument, which, combined with a powerful brass section, created the distinctive "modern sound" (Sonido Moderno), transcending traditional guaguancó or cha-cha-cha.
