Ben Seretan and John Thayer’s album "Sunbeam of No Illusion" is a meditative exploration of a "postmodern pastoral," where electronic instruments and analog imperfections—such as signal noise, glitches, and faulty vintage delays—are utilized to emulate the natural sounds of the Hudson Valley. Inspired by the transcendentalist philosophy of Emerson and Whitman, the duo crafted a sonic ecosystem from Rhodes piano loops and modular synthesizers. Recorded over 18 months, the project reflects the changing seasons and blurs the line between studio space and the outside world, inviting the listener into a "digital forest" akin to the works of Hiroshi Yoshimura and Harold Budd.
