The title for Noah Teague Booz's debut album originated after a show on July 29, 2023, at The Garage, a DIY venue in Boyds, Maryland, known for its authentic raucousness and plethora of ornamental street signs. At this show, local artist Molly Ruch created a portrait inspired by his performance. She posted the full watercolor on social media, and Noah says that when he saw it, he thought, This is amazing; it looks like an album cover, but all the signs seem kind of random... unless the album is called Signs! It's a Sign!!” At the time, he was already in the process of recording and mixing the album, which was initially planned to be self-titled. Booz reached out to Ruch about using the artwork and so began an exciting collaboration. Inspired by the portrait, he wrote and recorded one more song for the album—the title track. Signs as a whole is a collection of songs that span across almost 20 years of songwriting to get listeners caught up on who Booz is, where he comes from and the direction he's headed.
