L'Enfant du Désert (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is Armand Amar's original score for the French family adventure film of the same name directed by Gilles de Maistre, scheduled for theatrical release in France on 8 April 2026. The film, written by Gilles and Prune de Maistre, is adapted from Swedish journalist Monica Zak's book Hadara, l'enfant autruche, which recounts the true story of a Saharan nomad boy who, separated from his family in a sandstorm at the age of two in the early twentieth century, was taken in and raised by a flock of ostriches and survived among them for nearly a decade before being found and returned to his people. The narrative is framed by Sun, a twelve-year-old girl who has written a book based on her grandfather's tales of "the ostrich child" and travels into the Sahara to uncover the truth behind the story. The film is produced by Mai Juin Productions and Studiocanal and stars Nahel Tran, Zayn Sekkat, Nahïl Bouazzaoui, Kev Adams, Adriane Gradziel, and Neige de Maistre.
The soundtrack continues Amar's long-running creative partnership with director Gilles de Maistre, which began with the documentary Le Premier Cri (2007) — a project that earned Amar the IFMCA Award for Best Original Score for a Documentary Feature — and has since extended through Mia and the White Lion, The Wolf and the Lion, The Last Jaguar, and Moon the Panda. A French composer born in Jerusalem and raised in Morocco, and a 2010 César Award winner for The Concert, Amar is known for fusing European classical orchestration with the instrumentation and modal traditions of North Africa and the Middle East — oud, frame drums, congas, tabla, zarb, and a wide range of vocal traditions — making him a natural fit for a score set against the Sahara. The album is issued on Long Distance Music, the label Amar co-founded in 1994 with Alain Weber and Peter Gabriel, which specialises in world, classical, and soundtrack repertoire.
