The BC Combo has been bringing its signature style and passion to blues, jazz, swing, folk, R&B, soul and more for over 30 years. Based in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley and including world class national touring artists from New Orleans, Chicago and Bethlehem, PA, the band's journey began as BC & The Blues Crew in 1992. In addition to touring the Northeast and performing at various festivals, in the late '90s they represented the Billtown Blues Association as a finalist at the International Blues Challenge held in Memphis.
Led by New Orleans native and now Lehigh Valley's voice and ambassador of the Blues, Bev Conklin aka BC is a blues community activist as well as performer. She established the Women's Blues Alliance, the Lehigh River Blues Jam and now the new Roots Music Concerts to nurture and support blues growth in the region. Passionate about all of her endeavors, whether delivering her message via song or collaborating on events and activities, Conklin digs her heels in and gets the job done. Her passion for education, history, and women in the Blues stems directly from her grandfathers, Dr. Joseph A. Hardin and Dr. Beverly V. (BV) Baranco, who were instrumental in forming the NAACP in New Orleans and hosting concerts with acts like Cab Calloway; and providing financial and educational opportunities in Baton Rouge, respectively. Unaware of the impact of her relations until recently, Bev continues to drive Blues awareness forward in both performance and recorded efforts.
Wayne Smith toured on keys with Jay & the Techniques among other national touring acts before meeting BC. He has arranged all the original music and given the band its signature style since the start. Chicago native and former touring artist with Nature's Divine, Joe Mac brings his gifted rhythm, soul and blues on lead guitar. Mitch Shelly is their region's highly sought-after bassist and retired firefighter Glenn Speedy Spadone is the heartbeat of the band on drums.
