Black Jacket is the culmination of a two-decade collaborative dialogue between Berlin-based collective Contriva and Washington D.C. duo Chessie. Released as a double LP, the album synthesizes melancholy post-rock, abstract electronics, and experimental indie structures. The project features prominent figures of the independent scene, including members of The Notwist and Lorelei. The compositions merge Chessie’s trademark railway-inspired aesthetics with Contriva’s sophisticated instrumental craftsmanship, resulting in a synergistic work that transcends conventional stylistic boundaries.
