Meros - Magʻoki Attori (2025)

The Meros ensemble, founded in 2023 by former members of the Omnibus Ensemble, emerged as a prominent experimental project in Uzbekistan's musical landscape. By blending jazz fusion, ambient, and academic avant-garde with traditional Uzbek maqom, the group developed programs dedicated to the country's architectural heritage. The album "Magʻoki Attori" captures a one-time improvised performance inspired by the historic mosque of the same name in Bukhara. The musical structure follows the principle of "Girih," a Persian geometric ornament, weaving together the timbres of traditional instruments like the chang, gidjak, and oud with excerpts from the classical Shashmaqom cycle. Although the ensemble disbanded shortly after its inception, the project succeeded in documenting a profound philosophical reinterpretation of cultural roots through modern avant-garde music.
