Miles Davis - Classics In Jazz (Remastered 1998) (1954)

The 1954 album "Classics In Jazz" is the first LP release of the historic Miles Davis Nonet recordings, which later formed the basis of the legendary "Birth of the Cool" compilation. Conceived as an alternative to the aggressive nature of bebop, this project fused jazz harmony with classical impressionistic techniques and a chamber-like ensemble sound. Featuring a unique instrumentation that included tuba and French horn, along with innovative arrangements by Gil Evans and Gerry Mulligan, the album laid the foundation for the Cool Jazz style. Despite lacking immediate commercial success, these recordings revolutionized the genre, influencing 1950s jazz aesthetics and establishing Davis as a leading innovator of the era.
