Gobi Canticle brings together eleven duos for violin and viola as well as for two violins, composed by ten composers of Asian origin, most of whom are presented here for the first time. The performers Natalie Lin Douglas and Patrick Yim are long-standing advocates of new music and have premiered and recorded numerous works. This program ranges from ritualistic and folkloristic soundscapes to contrapuntal etudes and demonstrations of the virtuosity of the two performers. A variety of playing techniques are used: scordatura, overtone playing, ricochet, hoquetus and microtonal tuning.
