In the small Silesian town of Schweidnitz (Świdnica), shortly after the end of the Thirty Years' War, the Protestant Church of Peace was built, which Marcin Swiatkiewicz and the Arte dei Suonatori chose as the recording location for the present production for obvious reasons: Johann Gottlieb Janitsch, the composer of the four works, saw the light of day in the city when the magnificent half-timbered building was half a century old and, according to Swiatkiewicz, he must have received many impressions from the genius loci that accompanied him on his further path. After his first local lessons, this led him to study law in Frankfurt an der Oder, into the service of the then Prussian Minister of War and to the court of Crown Prince Friedrich in Rheinsberg, who allowed him to organize regular concerts for bourgeois audiences with his own orchestra - a groundbreaking step, in whose success the gallant and sensitive style of the music, as can be heard here, certainly played no small part.
