The album "Black Koyo" is the result of a profound creative dialogue between Belgian saxophonist Mattias De Craene, the Brussels-based Moroccan Gnawa ensemble Black Koyo, and Norwegian producer Jan Bang. The project's musical tapestry blends authentic instruments (guibri, qraqueb) and ceremonial chants with contemporary ambient, live sampling, and electronics. The work focuses on the aesthetics of trance and ritual, transforming Morocco's ethnic heritage into an immersive, cinematic space where introspective saxophone lines intertwine with the ecstatic rhythms of African traditions.
