The album Return of the Airpoets by Adam Halliwell and Reuben Lewis is a conceptual suite evolved from their initial collaboration on the track "Cygon Dance." The sonic landscape is defined by vast negative space, the strategic use of echo and reverb, and a somber atmosphere inspired by noir aesthetics and B-movie horror. The work was produced through the intensive restructuring of improvisational sessions, with the artists acting as producers to edit sound fragments into complex, multi-layered collages reminiscent of Teo Macero’s techniques. A primary artistic touchstone is Jon Hassell’s "Fourth World" concept, which advocates for a synthesis of traditional world music and futuristic electronics. The album explores themes of imaginary crimes and a philosophical progression into the unknown, drawing parallels to the literary works of Franz Kafka and Roberto Bolaño.
