Gene Pitney - Pitney '75 (1976) [Hi-Res]

Pitney '75 is a studio album by American pop singer-songwriter Gene Pitney, recorded in London in 1974–1975 across several studios, including Air Recording Studios, Morgan Recording Studios, R.G. Jones, and Roundhouse Recording Studios. It stands as his sole album for the British label Bronze Records.
By the time of the recording sessions, Pitney had undergone a significant career shift. The dramatic Brill Building balladeer of the 1960s — celebrated for his signature vibrato and emotionally charged delivery — had by the mid-1970s refocused his attention on the British and international market. The album reflects this reorientation, embracing a contemporary soft pop and mid-tempo AOR sound. It includes well-chosen covers of current hits by prominent contemporaries, among them Elton John's "Skyline Pigeon" and Barry Manilow's "Tryin' To Get The Feelin' Again," each rendered in Pitney's characteristically poised, restrained arranging style.
"Blue Angel" was released as the lead single and, while it failed to chart strongly in the UK or the US, it became a major hit in Australia. A follow-up single, "Train of Thought" (written by Alan O'Day), reached No. 53 on the UK Singles Chart in November 1975. The album balances original material with carefully selected covers, all unified by Pitney's distinctive vocal authority. Pitney '75 remains a key document of his later career, evidence of a polished artist navigating a transformed musical landscape without abandoning the hallmarks of his artistry. In April 2026, BGO Records released the album on CD for the first time as a standalone title, remastered and expanded with bonus tracks previously unreleased from the same sessions.
