Les éléphants d'Irène is the second studio album by Belgian trio Glaise — Philippe Cloes (voice, lyrics), Nicolas Paternotte (piano, composition, arrangements), and Alexandre Bughin (cello, composition, arrangements) — released May 8, 2026 on homerecords.be, co-produced by Pourtourprod and executive-produced by Interstices.
Recorded at Studio Sphères Sonores (engineer Jean-François Hustin) and Studio homerecords.be (Michel Van Achter), with mixing and mastering by Van Achter, the album continues the artistic path opened by the trio's acclaimed 2022 debut Le temps du geste. Glaise emerged from the long-standing Cloes–Paternotte duo, expanded in 2019 by cellist Bughin, whose presence deepened the ensemble's chamber DNA while nudging it toward jazz and contemporary idioms. The second album unfolds across eighteen pieces — two arching "sleep" movements, dialogues, ballades, and portraits — forming a continuous poetic-musical narrative. The titular image of "Irène's elephants" embodies the emotional weight typical of Cloes's writing: melancholy, existential questioning, and an ultimately life-affirming impulse cohabit the same breath. Piano and cello sustain a living dialogue around a vocal line that moves fluidly between intimate confession and small-scale theatre.
